To relax and unwind the untouched beaches all around the coastal line will provide the perfect place to soak up the sun or enjoy an epic surf. Lake and rivers provide the perfect outlet for water sports such as water ski’s and jet riding etc.

When you are ready to escape the warm climate, drive up to the hilltops in the center of the island. Enjoy the remarkable green tea plantations, waterfalls, flora and fauna.

Sri Lankan People and Lifestyle

Thailand has a population of over 20,800,000. Sri Lankans are notorious for being incredibly friendly and helpful. The diversity of culture and religion is reflected in the architecture of the land and the attitude of its people. 

Sri Lankans are performers and by nature and enjoying showing off their skills in public beaches and parks. Their fire based tricks and traditional dances are a truly unique and entertaining sight.

Sri Lanka - Getting There

Flights operate daily on a number of different airlines. There are no direct flights from NZ, so the duration depends on what airlines and routing you take.

Based on Singapore Airlines: Flights operate daily out of Auckland or Christchurch to Singapore and then a direct flight from Singapore to Colombo. The total flying time is 14 hours 10 minutes. 

Sri Lanka - Getting Around

Air: Most routes originate in Colombo offering affordable and fast transport to the provincial capitals.

Train: The Sri Lankan railway network serves all major towns and cities. Although trains take longer than buses they are more comfortable and often less expensive.

Bus: Sri Lanka has public buses do not provide a pleasant trip, the recommended choice of travel is to take a private AC bus, as they are more comfortable. 

Car & Motorcycle: If you plan to explore Sri Lanka by yourself cars, jeeps and vans are availble for rent in most major cities and airports. International companies allow you to book in advance through their websites.

Boat: Speedboats are common in all waterfronts and can be used for travel or for tour adventures. Larger ships constantly travel to India and The Maldives as they are in close proximity.

Taxi: Taxi’s are efficient and convenient. Either chartered or metered they are relatively inexpensive. The Taxis provided by hotels and resorts tend to be more expensive.

Tuk-Tuk: By far the most adrenalin rising mode of transportation. Tuk-Tuk can be found throughout the country and are a must have experience.

Sri Lanka - Popular Destinations

Colombo: The commercial, industrial and cultural capital of Sri Lanka. This colorful busy city gains it’s character through the fusion of colonial buildings and ruins adjacent to modern life.

Galle Fort: A UNESCO World Heritage Site of unique 16th -19th century architecture and design. When you enter through the gates of Galle you are teleported to another world of cultural and ethnic diversity.

Kandy: UNESCO world heritage site renowned for The Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most esteemed locations for the Buddhist religion.

Nuwara Eliya: is located at an altitude of 1,868 m, making it the ideal climate for tea plantations. This picturesque city enjoys untouched waterfalls & wild life along with modern day attractions such as a race track & golf course.

Bentota: is nestled between a river and the ocean; it is notorious for it’s water sports.  Since it is a short drive from Colombo (the capital) it is ideal for a day trip.

Hikkaduwa: a small town in the south coast of Sri Lanka infamous for its Breathtaking beaches, coral reefs & exhilarating nightlife.

Sigiriya: is a UNESCO world heritage site & one of the greatest archaeological attractions in Sri Lanka.

Unawatuna: is a bay beach situated in the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Surfer enthusiasts travel from all over the world to get a chance to ride this beaches infamous waves.

Anuradhapura: This ancient city played a significant part in the Buddhist religion and is considered sacred by the Buddhist community.

Tangalle: Renowned for it’s untouched beach and glistening turquoise waters. It is a tranquil haven to relax & unwind in complete privacy

Yala: home to the most visited national park in Sri Lanka. Where wild life such as leopard and elephants roam free. The ideal place to experience a truly wild and tropical terrain.

Sri Lanka Climate and Temperature

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate; it is hot and humid with a short rainy season.

Sunny Season: During December-March in Colombo and the coastal regions the temperature on average is between 22-30°C. In Kandy and lowlands the temperature ranges from 17-28°C. In Nuwara Eliya and the hilltops the temperature is a cool 14-21°C. All regions have a humidity level of 75%.

Rainy Season: May – July the temperature in Colombo and the coastal regions ranges from 24-31°C with 80%-95% humidity level. In Kandy and the lowlands  temperatures are between 21-29°C with a humidity level of 80%. In Nuwara Eliya and the hilltops the temperature is between 16-18°C with a 85% humidity level.
