We stayed at The Lost Paradise for 4 nights in the middle of an incredible 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and it really was a highlight! The house and setting are absolutely stunning, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy complete paradise! The food is amazing, the rooms are beautiful but it is the kind and friendly staff and their attention to detail that make this such a special place. We have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing places around the world and this is definitely among our favourites - I couldn't recommend The Lost Paradise enough. Absolute bliss - thank you

We had an enchanting four day stay at this delightful small exquisitely designed and decorated hotel. The food was varied with great use of fish landed on the beach. The staff were fantastic really helpful without that feeling that they were hovering. What more can we say!!

Our friends recommended The Lost Paradise to us and we booked to stay for a week as we were travelling with a toddler and being pregnant again we just wanted to relax in one place and this was definitely the right decision. We had such an amazing experience here - we ended up staying in two different rooms because of availability. Na was the first one and it was a lovely room with windows all around overlooking the lush green vegetation. This was actually my favourite room even though it was the cheaper option because of the wonderful light and being able to open all the windows to get a nice breeze. We then stayed in Moonamal which was also lovely and great to have your own seating area. The staff were brilliant, very attentive but discreet and they were always happy to accommodate our toddler's needs. And the food was incredible. We ate there every night - a 3 course meal and we were never disappointed - delicious. The outside seating area was very relaxing and we read books there every evening. The pool was the best pool we have been in - it felt very fresh and we hung out there almost all day long. The beach is beautiful and very secluded and the current isn't too strong there compared to other beaches around Tangalle and we had lovely walks along the beach down to the fishing boats. However, and this is no fault of The Lost Paradise, the sand flies on the beach are pretty bad, but because the pool was so delightful we didn't mind one bit and you can still hear and see the sea from the garden. We have been planning on when we can next visit The Lost Paradise and rent out the whole place with friends or family because it is just such a beautiful house - amazing architecture which has been very tastefully decorated. It was in fact the best place we have ever stayed.

This is a gem of an hotel, right on the edge of a long, and usually almost deserted, beach. The building is a wonderful example of Geoffrey Bawa's architecture (even if he may not have had that much to do with the details of it in practice), and we had a beautiful room with views of the ocean and the local lake. There was no a/c but we prefer things that way (some of the hotel rooms we stayed in were so cold we needed blankets at night!). There was a decent sized pool, stylish common areas, and attentive and friendly staff. The food was excellent for the two nights we stayed there, with the 'curry night' being the best we had in three weeks on the Island. Prices were reasonable as well, with wine, water and coffee included in the fixed price. Well worth a visit, and we would happily return.

This was idyllic. A small hotel on an empty beach where you able to enjoy the property as it was designed, that is a private beach house, that is with no reception area and perfect quiet. We stayed in two rooms, including the upstairs suite and both were wonderfully appointed. I am very glad that there is no air-conditioning. The air flow through beautifully designed, aligned window and doors was all you wanted. The staff are fantastic, very keen to assist when you have a question or a need but at the same time almost invisible the rest of the time. My only suggestion for improvement would be for the evening meals at the restaurant to be less western orientated.

We enjoyed 3 nights at The Lost Paradise in April. We simply loved the intimacy of the inn and savored the opportunity to live (temporarily) in an architectural masterpiece. After a very long drive, we were warmly greeted by the staff who quickly got us settled in, then fetched some beer & wine for us from the local store. The Lost Paradise does not sell alcoholic beverages, but they are happy to make a run to the local store for the spirits of your choice. Having read prior reviews, I was very glad to have brought a print-out of the driving directions and to have arrived during daylight. Without the directions I can't imagine how long it would've taken to find this gem. We were also glad to have booked the Moonamal room for most of our stay. Our final night was in the room next door, which was also nice, but the outdoor shower in the private courtyard of the Moonamal was special. With only 2 exceptions, everything about our stay was sublime…stunning architecture in a gorgeous setting on a world class beach, wonderful staff and some of the best food we experienced in Sri Lanka. The only things lacking were air conditioning and controlling the flies during daytime dining. My wife had a bigger issue than I with the lack of A/C, but I could easily sympathize with her as the days were quite warm. The house flies buzzing around our meals (especially at breakfast) were a bit annoying, but that's just part of living "en plein air". We did not mind the mosquito netting around our bed and found the room to be very comfortable at night with the ceiling fan running. My advice is to be prepared to forego a few modern conveniences and embrace the setting that makes The Lost Paradise such a unique stay.

Our stay at The Lost Paradise was possibly the best hotel experience I've ever had. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Sri Lanka to make a point of going there. We stayed as part of a larger group of 12 people and booked out the entire house for a wedding. The house itself is exquisite, designed by Geoffrey Bawa the bedrooms and communal spaces are comfortable, generously sized and fit perfectly into the lush private grounds. Our entire stay was entirely perfect, Ananda and his team did an amazing job, not only for the duration of our entire stay, but also during the wedding reception and dinner which they orchestrated and carried out flawlessly. Every meal was deliciously prepared and professionally served to the highest standard. We ended up eating there three meals a day for 5 days as we didn't ever feel like leaving. The private beach was awesome, excellent pool, endless outdoor seating for lounging in the shade or sun. The rooms have no A/C but we never felt like we needed it as the large doors and quiet ceiling fans did a perfectly good job of keeping us cool at night. The house is designed without any glass in the windows and the proximity to the ocean keeps a constant breeze circulating. We also had another party staying at Coco Tangalle which is about 10 minutes drive down the road and owned by the same people. Coco's also did an excellent job and everyone staying there was very happy with their experience.
