The Mudcastle is nestled in the picturesque Neudorf Valley, 45 minutes from Nelson city. Self-catering accommodation surrounded by beautiful gardens & minutes away from the region’s many attractions. There are 3 suites with ensuite bathrooms. 5 additional bedrooms share three bathrooms comprising 3 toilets, 3 showers & 1 bath. All rooms have fluffy robes & slippers, complimentary toiletries, towels & heating. There’s a comfortable lounge area, library and full kitchen. The owner lives in separate quarters on the property. Your group will be the only guests staying at the Mudcastle and you will have exclusive use of the entire castle.

If the Property Owner/Manager applies a Relaxed Cancellation Policy, the Renter can cancel up to 30 days prior to the start of the Tenancy. Cancellation requests must be made in writing and received by the Property Owner/Manager, and AA, at least 30 days before the start of the Tenancy. The Renter will receive a 50% refund of the total booking value generated on AA, less the non-refundable commission fee.

The Owner Recommendations

My recommendations are based on my experience and local knowledge.

  • Closest money machine: Motueka, Mapua or Nelson
  • Best grocery store: There's a dairy that's well stocked in Upper Moutere. Alternatively Motueka has both a New World and Countdown supermarket.
  • Best free activities: Day walks in Abel Tasman National Park or Kahurangi National Park. Swim or beach walk on Rabbit Island.
  • Best paid activities: Cruise Abel Tasman National Park, skydive in Motueka, rent a bicycle and cycle part of the Tasman Great Taste Trail.
  • Best night restaurants: Moutere Pub is closest. A short drive further is Mapua with a choice of restaurants (The Appleshed, Jellyfish and more)
  • Best lunch eateries: Moutere Pub, New Zealand's oldest pub is a great place for lunch, dinner or a drink, including a wide range of local craft beers
  • Best local café/coffee: Neudorf Vineyard, Flaxmore Vineyard, Gravity, or Moutere Hills for wine tastings.
