The owner responded:

Firstly we extend our apologies for finding the oven trays dirty in the bottom oven, the crumbs in the toaster and the coffee grinds left in the coffee machine. This certainly is not normal and as you kindly recognised when you met Tineke after your arrival and commented on the clean state of the house to her, it was inconsistent with the main presentation. Tineke explained that she had found the house in complete disarray in the morning after the last guests left the house, with a huge job to clean with a lot of extra washing and rearranged furniture and huge amounts of rubbish to remove to the tip in the time prior your arrival. She had called in extra help to achieve what they did. We have never found it in such a state and due to being a same day turnover and the focus being on removing sand, floors,washing 9 loads of sheets, towels and duvet covers and remove rubbish in this instance they failed to check the oven, toaster and coffee machine. I have asked her to ensure she does this in the future and call in additional people if required. I had not seen the images you sent until now as I could not open them while I was away in Twizel. I acknowledge that finding a greasy oven tray in that state is not appropriate but also know it is not a normal situation in this house. The fireplace had been completely cleaned and empty of all ash when we were in the house in early December so I apologise if it appeared otherwise. The mattress protectors had been repaired and cleaned also during that maintenance week in December, the outdoor fireplace wire brushed and repainted, heat pump filters cleaned, windows cleaned inside and out and an overall spring clean; the BBQ completely pulled apart and cleaned out. I apologise if new marks had been acquired over the early rental period for the summer on the mattress protectors. I agree the windows are an issue in this house and this was mentioned in the introductory email. Over the period we have someone come in every 2-3 weeks to clean them but with one strong wind and high tide they are back to being salt laden so I apologise your arrival was after a windy period during that time. I am sad you feel we were unprofessional , we answered every email you sent, thanked you for your comments and said we would take them on board and address the issues. We repaid the bond promptly as I was clearly made aware you had not been happy being asked for one initially, we were very clear what the exit clean included and did not include and any issues where a potential bond withholding would be made. We never plan to withhold any part of the bond for a chipped glass or broken plate which were the points I made about Tineke not needing to know about these minor things by regular texts. I apologise she did not respond to the more major issues and this has been discussed with her. Thanks and we wish you well in finding a more well cared for and luxurious property at Tata Beach in the future. Regards, Pru

FAIR (60 days)

If the Property Owner/Manager applies a Fair Cancellation Policy, the Renter can cancel up to 60 days prior to the start of the Tenancy. Cancellation requests must be made in writing and received by the Property Owner/Manager, and AA, at least 60 days before the start of the Tenancy. The Renter will receive a 50% refund of the total booking value generated on AA, less the non-refundable commission fee.
