There was a two fold reason for the holiday as we decided to get married in Crete and therefore wanted to combine the wedding and honeymoon. Hence we were looking for that special place that would make our stay there memorable. This villa delivered on all counts. We booked the villa through a holiday company however the owner reserves a number of weeks during the season for direct bookings. The villa itself is situated in a small hillside village (MAZA) approximately 6KM or so from the small resort of Georgiopolis which is on the coast about halfway between the City of Chania and town of Rethmino. The owner of the villa is an exceptionally friendly man. He built the villa in 2006-7 using traditional materials however modern construction methods. The land it is built on has been in the family for generations and was at once time part of an olive grove. With the exception of the parcel of land the villa is built on the rest of the surrounding property retains it's original state. The villa has a commanding view of the valley below and benefits from a light breeze which comes down the valley. The villa has air conditioning through with each room individually controlled. The two bedrooms are stunning with a queen size canopy bed in the main bedroom and a queen size bed and single day bed in the second bedroom. Both rooms are also tastefully decorated with high quality cupboards and related furniture. There are also high quality safes in each of the bedrooms. The bathroom is spacious and has a Jacuzzi bath as well as a powerful shower. It also has a washing machine which we found very useful. There is an open plan kitchen/dining/living room. With a flat screen TV/Digital receiver and DVD player. It also has a WIFI with high speed internet connection. The kitchen is fully fitted with modern full size appliances as well as various other smaller appliances and is therefore well suited for any type of cooking one may want to do while staying there. It should also be mentioned there is a fireplace in the living room and the house itself has central heating via radiators fed by an oil fired boiler and therefore it is more than suited for occupation during he colder periods of the year. The owner came twice a week to service the accommodation, clean the pool, cut the grass and attend to any problems that may have cropped up. (note: we didn't have any problems). There is a large patio just outside the front door of the house with a large table and umbrella for shade which is ideal for your morning breakfast. The pool is of a very good size and there are sun loungers, chairs and a large umbrella anchored into the ground which made for the perfect place to while away the day reading, sunbathing and cooling off in the pool. The place is very private and aside from the occasional barnyard noises i.e gobble and crowing from the neighbour's turkey and rooster is was exceptionally serene. The village is very small and has one very quiet taverna (appx 100 metres away) and a small caffeneon is about a 5-10 min walk away in the village square and adjacent to a tiny 14th century chapel. The caffeneon was a fantastic place to have a meal and a few drinks and not worry about having to drive. There are only a half dozen tables or so and Kostas the owner and his family run the place. To say they are friendly would be an understatement. His wife does all the cooking. There is no menu it is just what she decides to make that day. We ate there a half a dozen times and every meal was fantastic. Should you desire a particular meal item just tell him the night before and they will get it the next day and prepare it for you that night. The fantastic villa, it's location, views, and privacy combined with the evenings we spent in the caffeneon clearly make a stay at the villa the most memorable one we have ever had. I would point out it is the perfect place for both couples and families as the small resort mentioned earlier is only about a 10 minute drive away and you can get there by going down the old road and thereby negating the need to go on to the national road which can be a bit hair raising for those of you who are accustomed to driving on roads where people drive in accordance with normal driving habits.

We are a family of four that went to Crete for the second time (first time being last year), and we wanted something a bit different, i.e. away from the most touristy places. Last year we had discovered the beautiful beach of Giorgiopoli, and we decided to stay in that area. We came across this villa on the internet, and as it looked very nice we booked a week in July. We were not disappointed, the villa is fantastic. As others have said, it is of high quality, traditional yet modern, clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is great, and the garden is of good size, well kept and green. You have a nice view over the countryside surrounding the place, and apart from the sound of the crickets and the occasional neighbour's animals it is very quiet. We also went a few times to Kostas' taverna and had some memorable meals there. In addition, he showed us the small Byzantine church that is on the town square just next to his taverna, where you can admire some really old iconic paintings on the walls. He also let us have the key to the other village church, which is more recent, but it also has some icons of great artistic and historic interest. The small town of Giorgiopouli is charming. It is somewhat less touristy than most of the other towns and resorts along the coastline between Rethymno and Kissamos, and it has a great sand beach, about 10 kilometers long, where you can sunbathe, swim, relax and have a meal at one of the many places along the strip. The location, about halfway between Rethymno and Chania, also means that you are well placed for excursions both east and westwards. All in all, a stay in this villa is a great experience that can be highly recommended.

We had an amazing 3-week holiday at this villa. The villa has a very clean pool and a lovely front garden with a swing and a barbecue. The villa itself is built of wood and stone in the traditional Crete way. It is very well-stocked with kitchen utensils and the air conditioning system is excellent (and extremely necessary in the hot summer months!). You wake up to the sounds of sheep, goats and chickens every morning. In the evening you can see loads of stars. The owner is very kind and helpful. The town of Maza is beautiful and very secluded. The taverna in town - owned by the lovely Kostos - is fantastic and takes 5 minutes to walk to. The chef will cook whatever you would like. The Villa is a 10 minute drive to a 7 kilometre beach and Maza is in a good location to explore every part of Crete. Fly into Chania airport as it is much nearer that Heraklion.

We are a family of 3 and needed a relaxing holiday that would suit all of us. This villa fitted the bill perfectly. The Owner has kitted out the villa with everything that you could need in terms of home comforts and the swimming pool was wonderful - our daughter has grown gills. The garden is well maintained and the surrounding area is very rural providing lots of background noise of crickets and farmyard animals. There are two places to eat within walking distanced and lots of choice within a short drive. When we could persuade our daughter to leave the pool and garden there was a choice of several beaches within an easy drive. If you don't want to be in a touristy part of Crete and enjoy a slower pace of life but want good facilities then this would suit you. The owner visits the villa twice a week and keeps the villa, garden and pool well maintained.
